This study was carried
out to determine the responses of some barley genotypes from Bulgaria to salt
stress at germination stage. Three 2-row and three 6-row introgression barley
genotypes were used in the study, NaCl was applied at 3 g l-1 and 6 g l-1 doses
in addition to distilled water application. Germination rate, germination
strength, root length, shoot length, fresh and dry weight characteristics were
investigated. The study was conducted under laboratory conditions according to
the factorial design in randomized plots. Statistically significant differences
were found between cultivars and salt doses for all traits examined, except
fresh and dry weight. In addition, a cultivar x salt dose interaction was also
found. The study will provide preliminary information on barley varieties to be
used as breeding material.
