This study is conducted to study effect of
sintering path on properties of Al matrix composites. For experimental study Al
matrix is supported by two different ceramic powders including TiC and ZrO2
at different weight ratios 5 % and 10 %, respectively. To provide homogeneous
distribution ingredients are ball milled for ten minutes at 100 rpm. Then powder mixtures are compacted by a hand
press under a 300-ton load. After
compaction Ф25 x 5 mm sized composite specimens are sintered by 4 different heating
paths. SEM and XRD analyzes are conducted on powder mixtures. And properties of
the composites are investigated by means of density, porosity, hardness,
microhardness and optical microscopy. As a summary, the biggest hardness and experimental
density values are observed at Specimen 2 which is sintered by a gradually
heating route starting from 300 °C. And the Specimen 1 which is sintered by one
step heating shows the biggest porosity and lowest hardness values.
