Peptide-containing biomaterials have been increasingly studied with biomedical applications
such as drug delivery, cell culture scaffolds wound healing and therapeutics to tissue
engineering recently. The cross-linked hydrophilic hydrogels by three-dimensional network
structure show great similarity with biological tissues with high water retention. Self-assembled
or reversible peptide-based hydrogels are oligomers of naturally occurring amino acids. They
are biocompatible, biodegradable, usually non-immunogenic Furthermore these
hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity self-assembled peptid gels can be much safer bio-applications
with chemically identifiable and precise controllability properties which particular peptide
sequences can act as biological cues.. The different properties of side chains in amino acids
provide a many sites for chemical modification and conjugation choices of the peptides,
enabling various resulting polymeric gels with adjustable physicochemical and mechanical
properties. Macroporous cryogels from the hydrogel family are obtained by covalent cross-
linking or radical polymerization. Compared with the hydrogels have obtained from the same
solution at room temperature, cryogels are form a more heterogeneous structure, mechanically
stronger with higher porosity and swelling properties. For peptide based polymeric
hydrogel/cryogels can be designed to render shape memory effects, stimuli-responsive smart
materials, and self-assembled gelling polymers. The usability of these material at in-vitro/in-
vivo studies are particularly interesting for biological and biomedical applications. In this
review focuses on the synthesis of self-assembled polymeric hydrogels/cryogels containinig
peptide and their applications.
