ADES (Research Group for Asian Languages and Literatures Studies) is a research group dedicated to supporting scholarly studies on Asian languages, literatures, and cultures, fostering academic collaboration among researchers in these fields, and creating a qualified platform for interdisciplinary exchange. Based at Erciyes University, ADES has, since its establishment, adopted a comprehensive approach that goes beyond a narrow focus on specific languages or literary traditions, addressing Asia through the interconnected perspectives of history, language, literature, culture, thought, and education.

The group aims to promote the production of academic knowledge particularly in the fields of Eastern languages and their related literary and cultural traditions, to bring together early-career researchers and established scholars within the same academic environment, and to build a sustainable national and international research network. In this respect, ADES contributes to Asian Studies through symposiums, academic meetings, collaborative publications, research projects, and thematic scholarly activities.

One of the defining features of ADES is its ability to bring together scholars from different countries and institutions on a regular basis, thereby strengthening comparative perspectives and placing scholarly exchange on an institutional footing. The international symposiums successfully organized under the ADES name have enhanced the group’s academic visibility and opened the way for productive discussions across a wide range of fields, from language teaching and literary studies to cultural analysis and interdisciplinary research. This accumulated experience has transformed ADES from a structure that merely organizes events into a research community that aspires to produce lasting academic impact in the field of Asian Studies.

The contribution of ADES is not limited to academic events. Members of the research group also played an active role in the establishment of the PhD Program in Asian Studies and the MA Program in South Asian Studies at Erciyes University, contributing to the development of their academic foundations. Today, ADES members continue to teach in these programs, supervise and train graduate students, and support the institutionalization of Asian Studies. In this sense, ADES is not only a body that produces research and academic events, but also an educational and scholarly community that directly contributes to the cultivation of academic expertise in the field.

Today, ADES continues its work as a dynamic platform that deepens academic interest in Asia, promotes international collaboration, and brings together different disciplines around shared research agendas. Centered on academic, cultural, and intellectual exchange, ADES seeks to generate new opportunities for research in Asian languages and literatures and to build a strong network of communication that will help shape future scholarship in the field.
