Abstract

The advancement of sciences requires new and alternative methods. First of all, for this advancement, past methods have to be investigated in this process. After the analysis of past methods, researchers may think alternative methods. This effort should continue in also Islamic Sciences. In this context, understanding of Islamic culture, civilization and tradition are able to express with different and new methods. History of Islamic Sects has research area in both history of Islamic schools of thought and history of contemporary Islamic movements. History of Islamic Sects Researches should always aim to create new methods because of their historical significance. The purpose of this study is to discuss semantic methods in History of Islamic Sects. Significance of linguistic investigations gradually increases in social sciences. Therefore Semantic method evolved with these attempts in 20th century. Semantic is method of insight and interpretation. Semantic splits three theorems which are general semantic, philosophical semantic, linguistic semantic. The most convenient method for Islamic sciences is linguistic semantic. History of Islamic sects may benefit from linguistic semantic. Thus Semantic methods may produce solutions in these studies. Eventually, new and alternative methods are discussed in history of Islamic sect’s researches.
