FROM A HISTORICAL NOVEL TO NATIONAL IDENTITY Abstract: Nations look for the traces of their national identities in the depths of history. This is one of the most important steps of the period in which a society becomes a nation and forms an identity. Events experienced in past shape the future of a nation and nations can look through today under the light of their past. WW I and its reflections are definetely one of the most sorrofwul tragedy of our past. In this respect, litetature authorities must transfer the reflections of this important event causing Ottoman Empire to fall to their works as well as historians. Among the literature works in which history and literature form a unity, historical novels hold an important position for the formation of identity. In research, first of all concept of historical novel was focused on and the role played by the historical novel in tranfering national identity from. Among the historical novels writen about Sarikamis Campaign which is one of the most sorrowful tragedies of WW I, Sarıkamış / Beyaz Hüzün was studied from the point of both historical novel criteria and national identity elements.
