Özet

The objective of the present experiment was to determine the effect of the replacement of alfalfa hay with garden burnet (Sanguisorba minor) hay on digestibility, metabolisable energy (ME) and methane (CH4) production of total mixed ration (TMR) for lamb using in vitro gas production technique. Inclusion of garden burnet hay into total mixed ration significantly reduced gas and methane production and increased partitioning factor (PF), microbial protein production (MP), and efficiency of microbial production (EMP) of total mixed ration. The gas, methane, true digestible substrate (TDS), PF, MP and EMP of total mixed rations ranged from 80.2 to106.2 ml, 9.3 to13.4 ml, 352.2 to 361.9 mg, 3.3 to 4.3, 118.5 to 175.6 mg and 33.6 to 49.8% respectively. In conclusion, it appears that garden burnet hay can be replaced with alfalfa hay up to 30% to improve PF, MP, and EMP and decrease methane production by 30% without compromising the digestibility of the total mixed ration. However, before large in vivo studies are required to determine the effect of garden burnet hay inclusion in total mixed rations on feed intake and growth performance, further research is needed.
