Abstract

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a disease of the retina that is caused by diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is usually harmful to the arteries. As the destruction of the arteries progresses, the blood vessels at the back of the eye become hardened which causes to a retinal hemorrhage. The most effective method for the diagnosis of DR is the Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) method. In this work, simulations based on differential evolution (DE) algorithm have been carried out to identify new hemorrhagic regions resulting from diabetes mellitus on FFA eye images. In the simulations, the hemorrhagic regions were clarified and the total area of these regions is calculated. As a result, more objective assessments were obtained according to routine clinical evaluation about the diagnosis and course of the disease.
