The history of town is a discipline or scientific domain which has its own question, subject and the sources and the number of studies carried out regarding this domain has been increasing exponentially. As a result of the attention paid to this subject, the studies have generally been based on archive documents, the consructions, surface researches, visual materials, literary works, manuscripts, graveyards, legends, the archive documents that the town spossess, the travelogues written following the visit of a town and so on. In this study,the travelogues written by theAmerican Board missionaries who visited Tokat will be assessed in order to make some contributions to the history of Tokat town. The missionaries of the American Board having been founded in 1810 had served in several towns of Anatolia as a missionary and one of these towns has been Tokat. The town, formerly in the North Armenia Mission became an out-station under the charge of Sivas in Western Turkey Mission stations, have been visited several times by the missionaries and even became their place of residence. Therefore, the missonaries who visited the town or resided therefor some time provided a great deal of crucial information regarding the history of town in their travelogues. Thus, using the travelogues of the missionaries who came to Tokat, it is aimed to present their point of views about the town and the region.
