Algols are semi-detached close binary systems. They have experienced an epoch of fast mass transfer which
has converted the previously more massive component into a low-mass giant. Layers which were originally
deep within the star and have been altered by thermonuclear fusion are now exposed. The surface chemical
compositions of both stars are a precious diagnostic of the nucleosynthesis processes that occur deep within stars.
The principal goal of our observational project is determination of the abundance pattern for a sample of Algol
systems, to probe their evolution and to constrain models of binary evolution. Only a ne spectroscopic analysis
of the abundance patterns can discriminate between dierent evolutionary paths and mass loss mechanisms
owing the sensitivity of exposed Carbon and Nitrogen to the initial characteristics. We will obtain spectra at
multiple orbital phases, and analyse the data using the spectral disentangling (SPD) technique for this aim.
