Proje Özeti
This project aims to provide a structure in which UGV and UAV can work in coordination with each other during search and rescue operations and provide support to the natural disaster coordination centers and search and rescue teams. The sub-objective of this research will also offer a range of benefits that significantly enhance efficiency, safety, and effectiveness under abnormal conditions. The solution also can be utilized in various fields of applications such as agriculture, critical infrastructure security. The proposed UGV will be a versatile platform to enhance the SAR units’ capabilities in the affected zones. This UGV can be used for transportation, logistics support (carrying needed heavy tools by the rescuers, medical supplies, nutrition), casualty and/or medical evacuation, communication relay and auxiliary power unit purposes.
The UAS can provide a means of sensor to the ground vehicle or the operator in an autonomous way, avoiding the obstacles, which both makes the operation easy and safe. On the other hand, the UAS will be able to scan, map and model the affected area with the help of ultrasonic sensors and LIDAR, to detect survivors, casualties, obstacles, and threats, to act as a communication relay and share all the information with the UGV operator and coordination center.
The ground vehicle operator, or human intervention to the system will be only pointing the location on an interface where the UAS will collect the data/stream the video, and after completing the mission will turn back to the point where the ground vehicle/team is in an autonomous manner. These fields of technologies are regarded as cutting-edge technologies, generating significant research activity and results.
A set of supporting systems, for damage assessment, conflict management, detection, accurate
mapping and modelling, automated triage and docking systems will also be considered and further
developed during the time of the project.
There will be two phases for the tests and measurements of the UGV and UAS;
- In the first phase; the sub-parts of the end-system will be tested separately in their respective
countries (UAS in Türkiye, UGV in Hungary)
- The second phase will be conducted after integration of the sub-parts in Hungary with the
participation of the whole consortium at ZalaZone (Zalaegerszeg), one of the largest ground vehicle
test areas in Europe with its independent airfield for UAS tests.
The tailor-made advanced training courses will be organized at both participating universities in both
countries with the intention of presenting project results and outcomes to the youth and high-level
audiences with relevant background in the field of the project.
The proposed project provides significant impact at multiple levels. Developing the a successful UGV- UAS system will impact SAR workers on a daily basis. It will reduce the risk impacting the workers as well as the affected people. The operation of the proposed system will be more cost-effective than conventional SAR teams.
