Investigation of Secure and Innovative Avionic Flight Management Systems: A Basic Framework Design
Avionics systems are electronic systems used to make the flight of the aircraft more reliable, lower cost and easier. The flight management system (FMS), which is one of the avionic systems, plays a critical role in the fulfillment of functions such as guidance, navigation and control in aerial vehicle. It has become necessary to apply innovative and cutting-edge technologies to avionic systems that have been used in the same configuration for a long time in order to show a parallel development with the rapidly developing electronic technologies.
Blockchain, as an innovative technology; has the capacity to securely process, transmit and store data in FMS and other avionics systems. However, prior to the implementation of novel technologies such as blockchain into aerial vehicles, the usability of the technology should be extensively investigated. Although recent studies have revealed the capacity of the blockchain in the field of avionics, there are still very few studies in which the blockchain is applied to avionic systems in real time. For this reason, the usability of the blockchain in avionic systems needs to be demonstrated. In this study, it is demonstrated blockchain can be used to solve which of the problems faced by aerial vehicle system designers with a basic framework design example. The basic framework aims to provide data sharing within aerial vehicle databases based on blockchain.
