Abstract:

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and species of house dust mites (HDM) in İstanbul. For this aim, house dust was collected from a total of 70 houses in 30 multi-storey (apartment flat), 40 single floored (shanty houses) in different districts of İstanbul, between June and August 2018. Collected dust samples investigated by the lactic acid-precipitation method Spieks to Boezman in laboratory and species identifications of the samples was made according to related identification key.In 8 of 30 multi storey apartment flats (27%) and 15 of 40 shanty houses (37.5%) with social and structural difference, mites have been detected. A total of 524 mites were identified in the study and 39 of them could not be identified.Seen in house mite species; D. pteronyssinus(21.18%) was the most prevalent mite species, then D. farinae(16.03%), Acarussiro(15.64%), Blomiaspp. (13.74%),Cheyletus spp. (13.35%)andTarsonemus spp. (12.59%), respectively. In conclusion, house dust mites were common determined in various houses in Istanbul and D. pteronyssinus was the most common mite species.
